Longstone Edge - Peak District Walk
Wednesday 14th May 2014
Having come across a link on the internet pushing some cycling routes around Longstone Edge, and under the illusion the quarrying at Backdale had been stopped, I decided to explore some new paths around Longstone Edge.
Start: Moor Lane (SK1998 7299)
Route: Moor Lane - Longstone Edge - High Rake - Taylor Lane - Black Harry Gate - Longstone Moor - Moor Lane
Distance: 4.5 miles Ascent: 214 metres Time Taken: 2 hours 40 mins
Terrain: Easy tracks and paths.
Weather: Warm and sunny
Pub Visited: None Ale Drunk: None

Looking right the view extends beyond Monsal Head.
Looking across Great Shacklow Wood.
Following the road along Longstone Edge.
One of the reasons for choosing this route was because I thought the quarrying had been stopped, but it appears it has been allowed to start up again.
Thankfully the view beyond the quarry makes it easier to ignore.
Once I turn onto Taylor Lane the views continue to improve, here looking across Rough Side to Sir William Hill.
Taylor Lane was a delight to walk along.
Looking along the line of Rough Side and Coombs Dale towards the Edges
Looking down to the area known as Black Harry Gate, where I forgot to go in search of the old gate.
Wardlow Hay Cop comes into view as I head across the fields towards Longstone Moor.
Drystone walls make for a typical Derbyshire scene.
Looking back to Eyam Edge as I approach Longstone Moor.
The path across the moor isn't as wet as it could be.

Dropping off the moor and the view extends from Lees Moor Wood to Rabbit Warren.
